If I were into the whole xanga title thing, I'd call this one "Adventures in the Airport."

I went to see D this past weekend, but what an adventure! I'll back up to last week. I had a project deadline... my boss has officially left for military duty, and he is the only one who could sign off on this project. So I did some serious crunch time and got the project (mostly) done by the time he left Thursday, and in the process managed to put in 40 hours by Thursday afternoon.

Since I was already planning on leaving early Friday to go see my honey, I decided that since I'd have 40+ hours by Friday at lunch that I would go ahead and try to get standby on an earlier flight. Little did I know what a silly idea that was! I had no way of knowing, but there had been a canceled flight earlier that day, so the airline was doing its best to roll those passengers on standby for other flights out, including the flight I had intended to catch. To complicate that, things were still snowballing from the previous day's hideous storms. Needless to say, trying to get on an earlier flight was definitely a bad idea that day. I ended up spending the whole afternoon in the airport. Good thing I brought a book! In case you were worried, I did still have a seat on my original flight later in the afternoon, which of course was also delayed and changed gates several times.

Sunday was also an adventure. My flight was delayed by an hour and a half, but neither D nor myself thought to check before we headed to the airport. Due to an unfortunate mis-communication, he was not able to sit with me for an extra hour. Turns out that flight had a mechanical problem at it's origin, and then weather problems at its destination before it arrived at my location. This put me in at midnight and since I parked my car rather than arranging for a ride, I didn't get home till about 1am. I actually did have to get someone to come take me from the terminal to the parking lot as the tram ceases regular scheduling at midnight. ::sigh:: It is rather unfortunate being at the mercy of a despised airline.

Travel woes aside, I had a marvelous time with D this weekend. The weather was cool and refreshing, a nice change from the ridiculous heat and humidity we have been experiencing here. We got some wedding things done, and had time to just relax. We ran out of time to fly his kite, but there will be plenty of opportunity later on. I miss him terribly, and saying goodbye is just no fun at all. We're still praying through some tough decisions, which makes it that much harder.
